AI has been a thing recently, and most developers I talked to have been using AI for their daily tasks. But, can you please stop suggesting, persuading, convincing, recommending, asking, encouraging, or whatever, me to use AI?
I respect you using AI, so you should respect me not choosing to use AI for my primary coding toolbox.
I don't deny that I use AI. Yes, I've used ChatGPT to improve my English writing, correct English grammar and check English spelling (I don't use AI for this article, as I want to express my feeling, even though there can be some silly grammar and spellings). Yes, I've used ChatGPT to check if there are any suggestions that I can apply to my code (mostly no better suggestions). I don't use it BEFORE writing articles and code, but AFTER that, so that I can review AI suggestions and pick what is actually reasonable to me. I want AI to help me as a tool, not a replacement where I can just write prompts. I'm not disabled :).
I want to find JOY in writing code. That's why I don't have AI integrated directly into my editor to share inline suggestions, but instead I use ChatGPT web, so I can reach out to it whenever I want.
Letting AI write code for me is NOT FUN anymore. In my opinion, when AI writes all code for me, I can easily skip some mistakes and don't have a chance to think about code thoroughly, but when I write every single letter of code by myself, I'm forced myself to understand problems deeply, design API carefully, consider trade-offs effectively and handle errors correctly. Writing code by myself is one of my brain exercises. If I let AI do it, my brain will become "lazy" and "obese". Tool is supposed to support you, not become you!
AI does offer benefits, such as finding resources for learning new skills, doing daunting tasks, but for coding, NO THANKS. I'm probably wrong about AI. It can replace me. Ok, so what? I do nothing? No! It's my battle now. I'll fight for my ideal. I'll keep learning new areas, improving my skills and expanding my horizon (e.g. probably system programming, or graphics programming). I try to become 1% better each day.
So, PLEASE STOP CONVINCING ME TO USE AI! THANKS!
I use AI as a TOOL, but not like the way you're using AI as a "YOU" every day!
P.S. I've realized how awesome it was when I wrote the article without using AI, which allowed me to express my real feeling, allowed the words to freely flow from my brain to my hands, and made me realize that my vocabulary was quite limited. I think that I should start writing with less AI, and studying more English.
